Sunwolves bow out of Super Rugby

The Sunwolves announce today the end of Super Rugby for the Japanese franchise. With the implications of COVID-19 and the significant changes to the 2020 SANZAAR Super Rugby season the Sunwolves will no longer take part in any amended format of the competition.
JSRA had been working hard with Rugby Australia, SANZAAR and the relevant government agencies and authorities on the likelihood of the Japan based team entering into Australia early June prior to the proposed Super Rugby Australia competition due to kick off in early July.
With the timeframes and the multiple variables in place it has proved unable for the Sunwolves to compete in the revised format.
JSRA CEO, Mr Yuji Watase said “ It is extremely unfortunate and disappointing but the reality is that the Sunwolves time in Super Rugby has come to an end for now. It has been an honor and privilege for us to be part of the toughest rugby competition in the world”
